A Second Precinct officer was taken to Huntington Hospital after a collision on Main Street Wednesday afternoon.
The incident, which occurred near the corner of New York Avenue and Main Street at 12:50 p.m., shut Main Street in Huntington village between New York and Stewart Avenues for nearly two hours.
A police spokesperson said the officer, who was not identified, was making a U-turn to go westbound when his vehicle struck a 2006 Hyundai Tucson SUV traveling eastbound.
The man in the SUV was not hurt, according to police.
The male officer was seen being taken out of the driver’s side of the Ford police cruiser, of which the driver’s side door was cut off, and wheeled into a Huntington Community First Aid Squad ambulance.
The officer was treated for minor injuries at Huntington Hospital, a spokesperson said.
Main Street reopened at 2:32 p.m.
