Earth Day Expo Brings 'Green' Fun To Heckscher Park

The Town of Huntington celebrated Earth Day in a big way last Saturday with its annual Family Earth Day Expo.

The beautiful day in Heckscher Park was organized by Councilman Mark Cuthbertson and sponsored by Covanta.

There were fun and environmentally-friendly events, including a “Shed the Meds” with Suffolk Police; a “Green Showcase” showing off green energy solutions for the home; and the popular Touch-a-Truck display, through which kids learned about alternative fuel trucks.

Free, reusable grocery bags were also handed out courtesy of SouthDown Marketplace, and there was a raffle for a rainwater barrel courtesy of Cornell Cooperative Extension.
