Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a Tuesday afternoon hit-and-run crash that occurred in Huntington Station and left a Northport woman seriously injured.

To Suffolk Legislator William Spencer (D-Centerport), his proposal to ban the use of single-use plastic bags in stores across the county is “almost a no brainer.” After a public hearing on the proposal held last week, Spencer and the rest of the Suffolk Legislature learned that many members of the public feel the same way.

Sheldon Leftenant, a Huntington Station gang member, was given the maximum sentence of 55 years to life in prison for shooting, and nearly killing, Suffolk County Second Precinct Police Officer Mark Collins.
