Sporting a white apron featuring a pizza pie and the words “Pizzaologist” written across it, Harborfields Superintendent Francesco Ianni flipped pies at Jonny D’s Pizza in Greenlawn on Tuesday for Pizza Pi Day, a fundraiser for scholarships issued by the school district’s Special Education PTA.

Located at 91 Broadway, the pizzeria was packed and the event was a success, with 15 percent of each item sold between 5 p.m.-9 p.m. donated to the cause. The funds will go directly toward programs and scholarships for Harborfields children with special needs. The final fundraising tally was still being calculated as of deadline Wednesday, but $600 was raised through raffles.

Originally slated for March 14, the event was postponed to March 21 due to weather.

“We are absolutely delighted with the turnout,” Karin Fey, co-president of Harborfields SEPTA, said. “It is wonderful to see this overwhelming support for our students with special needs, both from the school district staff and the Harborfields community as a whole.”
