Oliver Larsen

Suffolk police said a man was speeding and drunk when he crashed his car into another vehicle on the Long Island Expressway in Melville on New Year’s Day.

Police said Oliver Larsen, 29, of Elmont, was apparently traveling at a “high rate of speed” eastbound near Exit 49S around 3:22 a.m. when he crashed his 2008 BMW into a 1997 Nissan, which was traveling at a “normal rate of speed” and overturned on the side of the road. Larson’s vehicle careened off the Nissan and went into the woods on the side of the road.

The female driver of the Nissan, who did not have any passengers, was transported to Huntington Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, which included a laceration to the eye. The three passengers in Larsen’s vehicle, two female and one male, were also transported to Huntington Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Larsen did not go to the hospital.

Larsen was arrested and charged with DWI and arraigned on Friday, police said.
