Fire Displaces 15 Apartment Residents

Fifteen Huntington Station apartment residents were evacuated Wednesday morning after a fire broke out in their building, fire officials said.

The Huntington Manor Fire Department to the fire in the New York Avenue building between East 10th and 11th streets at around 6:51 a.m.

Firefighters arrived to a blazing fire in apartments behind a commercial building, and began a search and aggressive attack on the fire, officials said.

Around 15 residents were safely evacuated from the building uninjured, and the Red Cross was requested to provide assistance, according to fire officials.

The fire, which was under control with an hour, caused extensive damage to the building and apartments on the first and second floors, fire officials said.

Mutual aid was requested from the Huntington, Greenlawn, Melville, Dix Hills, Commack and Halesite fire departments.

EMS crews from the Huntington Community First Aid Squad and Suffolk Fire-Rescue Coordinators were also on the scene.

Around 50 firefighters responded with ten trucks and were led by assistant chiefs Jon Hoffmann, Chuck Brady and Jim Glidden.

The Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
