A fire that engulfed a 10-wheel dump truck shut down a stretch of Park Avenue early Wednesday morning, police and fire officials said.

Police said a 59-year-old man was driving a Mack dump truck northbound on Park Avenue just north of Jericho Turnpike in Huntington at around 5:40 a.m. when he noticed mechanical troubles with the vehicle. He pulled the truck over, and realized it was on fire.

Huntington Manor firefighters got the call and responded to control the blaze. Units were under the command of Chief Frank McQuade and assistant chiefs Jon Hoffmann and Chuck Brady.

There were no injuries reported.

The stretch between Broadway and Park Avenue north of Jericho Turnpike was closed in both directions due to a fuel spill, police said. Town of Huntington Spill Response and a Suffolk County road sander responded to the spill, fire officials said.
