Oheka Condos Moving Forward Again

Oheka owner Gary Melius has new plans for development of condominiums on the grounds of Oheka Castle.

Melius confirmed this week plans have been submitted to the town planning board for a scaled-down development of luxury condominiums that would overlook the grounds and the world-renowned castle.

The new proposal calls for 90 condominiums located in a single building located entirely on the Oheka Castle property. Previously approved plans called for 190 condos in two buildings and included a portion of the Cold Spring Hills golf course adjacent to Oheka.

Plans obtained by The Long-Islander show the new structure will be facing the Oheka’s façade across an open meadow. The plan requires site plan approval by the planning board.

“The new units are equivalent to the ones that had been previously approved for that space, just fewer condos,” Melius said. “After meeting, we don’t anticipate any problems with the submission to the planning board.”

Cold Spring Hills Civic Association members have endorsed the new plan. The civic association has in the past stated it recognizes the value Melius has brought to their properties and the area as a whole by restoring Oheka Castle and making it a globally recognized historic building.

Melius’ plans call for the condominium owners to have access to the historic castle and its amenities.
