Huntington village’s first brewery will be able to operate a tasting room.

At its April 12 meeting, the town’s zoning board of appeals granted the conditional approval to Mark and Karen Heuwetter, the husband-and-wife duo that plans to open Six Harbors Brewing Company at 243 New York Ave.

The couple first divulged last year plans to open what would be Huntington village’s first microbrewery, and received a general approval from the zoning board last year. However, that first approval barred the Heuwetter’s from operating a tasting room.

This time around, the board granted the approve for the tasting room under certain conditions, including that parties are not hosted on the premises; alcohol sales and consumption occur solely within the building; and there’s a 60-person max occupancy.

Hours of operation were also set at 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday-Thursday; 11 a.m.-12 midnight, Friday-Saturday; and 11 a.m.-8 p.m., Sunday.

The board also directed the Heuwetters to maintain, via clicker, a count of the number of patrons on site from 5 p.m.-closing on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Heuwetters are also mandated to return before the board after opening to present an additional traffic study to determine actual parking uses.

Mark Heuwetter, reached by phone call Tuesday, said, “We’re excited to get the beer flowing.”

He said there are plans to offer several locally-themed beers, including the Huntington H3-Harbor Hoppy Double IPA and Lloyd Harbor Litehouse Lager. Along with tasting flights and pints, the brewery will also offer cans, growlers and kegs for off-site consumption.

Heuwetter said there are plans for a soft opening within the next few weeks, and then a grand opening next month.

“It will be another great walking destination within Huntington,” Heuwetter said. “Stay tuned.”
