Taylor Strough has a lot of confidence in Cold Spring Harbor’s Nassau championship-winning offense.

“We play phenomenal together, moving the ball well. And when we do that, we can score an unlimited amount of goals,” Strough, a senior and middie, said following the Seahawk’s 16-2 win over Lynbrook Tuesday night, which secured them their third-straight county title.

Strough, 18, who scored two goals of his own in the win, added, “We definitely practice hard during the week and we focus on match ups because I know they had a couple of good players.”

Coach Dennis Bonn said his team was hitting on all cylinders out of the gate. The Seahawks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, and added to it before halftime.

Strough said the Seahawks emphasized persistence in putting the game away early. He added that when Lynbrook called a timeout after the Seahawks took a 3-0, Cold Spring Harbor’s coaching staff urged the Seahawks to continue the pressure.

“Do not stop, this game is far from over, keep pushing,” Strough recalled.

“As soon as our coaches said that we really kept going and that led to another goal and another goal and we just kept playing hard,” he added.

Senior attacker Ian Laviano led the charge with six goals and three assists, while senior middie Matt Licciardi added one goal and three assists. Licciardi also won 9-of-11 faceoffs.

Meanwhile, senior attacker Kane Jaklitsch added a pair of both goals and assists; senior attacker Will Reed had two goals and one assist; senior attacker Jack Reilly scored one goal; and junior middie and attacker Kevin Winkoff scored one goal and added two assists.

Bonn said the Seahawks controlled the tempo of the game on both the offensive and defensive ends of the field. He added that defenders Dylan Guarneri, a senior, and juniors Hunter Guarneri, Aidan Hinphy and Liam Kaley, did a great job shutting down the offense, along with long-stick middies Matt DeGennaro, senior, and JT Roselle, a junior; junior middie Teddy Bentley and senior middie Sean Rush.

The Seahawks improved to 18-0 on the season with the win. Their 25 straight victories date back to the 2016 season.

Cold Spring Harbor has also won two straight Class C state titles.

Next, the Seahawks will face either Shoreham-Wading River or Islip for the Long Island championship. The game is slated to begin Saturday, 3 p.m. at Stony Brook University. There will be a $7 admission fee.

“It’s definitely going to be a different game and going to be tougher game,” Strough said. “We need to step up even more because these guys are going to want to bring it.”
