After the Colts (2-0) turned two first-half turnovers into touchdowns, Half Hollow Hills High School West rolled over Smithtown West (1-1) in the Colts’ annual homecoming game on Saturday 35-6.

In the first quarter, with Smithtown West driving into the Colts’ redzone, sophomore defensive back Alexander Filacouris scooped up a fumble for Hills West and took it to the house – giving his team the first lead of the day. Later, in the second quarter, Hills West recovered another fumble – one that would lead the Colts to more points – but the big play this time came from Raymond Lyte, a senior running back. Effectively closing the door on Smithtown West’s hopes, Lyte ripped a 71-yard rush that pushed his final stat line of the day to 95 yards and a touchdown.

Also making waves on offense for Hills West was its junior running back, Lucas DiGiorgi, who rushed for 2 touchdowns on 54 yards.

The win followed a shootout for the Colts last weekend on Sept. 12 when the team traveled to Newfield (0-2) to open up Division II play. Though outscored 20-7 in the second half, Hills West held on to win the game 42-27 with Anthony Lucarelli – the Colts’ junior quarterback – leading the charge with four total touchdowns and 281 yards of offense.

On Saturday, Hills West will make the trip to West Islip (0-2) for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
