Commack High School’s football team defeated Walt Whitman High School 20-0 in the Cougars’ Homecoming competition on Oct. 25.

The team’s strategy going into Saturday’s game involved developing a “balanced attack,” Coach Jeff DiLorenzo told Long Islander News the week before the game.

“I think we need to evolve a little bit and make sure we’re a little more balanced than we have been; to be a little less predictable,” he said. “And if we can do that, then we’ll be able to manage the clock a little bit better and have more ball management.”

When game time came, Augie Contressa and C.J. Trenkle each scored rushing touchdowns, with Trenkle also passing to Chase Galletto for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Jae Yoon Bae and Julie Costa were crowned Homecoming King and Queen.

The school also honored 2003 graduate Christopher Petersen as the year’s Commack High School Alumnus of Distinction. Petersen, who is a member of the 103rd Rescue Wing of the United States Air Force, served in Afghanistan in 2011, 2012 and 2014.
