The Northport Tigers boys track team is this year’s public school state champion.

The squad, which took to upstate Cicero for the championship meet on June 8-9, was led by the 4x800-meter relay team that consists of Elijah Claiborne, Dan O’Connor, Thomas Fodor and Sean Ryan. The group captured first place at the state level for the second time this season; it also won the indoor title in the event over the winter.

Individually, Claiborne earned state championships in the 800-meter and 1,600-meter events.

Altogether, the Tigers finished first in the overall public school standings for the state meet with 28 points. The squad from St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington claimed the overall Federation title.

Additionally, Sydney Rohme, of the school’s girls track team, finished sixth in the state pentathlon event.
