Nearly 14 years on, Siobhan Mulroy and Steve Camas continue to fulfill their globetrotting culinary mission at 34 New Street, bringing the world to their doorstep – and your plate – in Huntington village.

When they opened the doors to 34 New Street restaurant in January 2001, their goal was a simple, wide-reaching one: create a home for creative world cuisine drawing from all corners of the globe.

“Prime is more than just a dinner; it’s an experience,” said Bohlsen (a co-owner of Huntington's Prime steakhouse), who was “born and raised in the restaurant business,” by a family that currently owns seven restaurants.

Many know Prime for their breath-taking views they have of the water - but Bohlsen says how they "do not compromise any of [their] standards because [they] have the view to fall back on." Prime takes the utmost pride in its elaborately ornate decor, and - most importantly - in their unwavering attention to serving top-quality dishes.

Located on the corner of New Street and W. Carver Street, Huntington's Vitae Restaurant & Wine Bar stands in the former home of Abel Conklin's Steak & Seafood.

The three-year-old restaurant is "Continental American, with a twist," said Executive Chef Steven Del Lima. Or maybe, "New American with a twist." Its name, "Vitae," comes from the Latin "vita,"meaning "life."

Though many of the words on the menu may be foreign and worrisome to the selective eater, wary of the unknown, Del Lima’s menu is simply a take on the traditional.

We sit down at a semi-circular booth at Huntington’s Black & Blue Seafood Chophouse, across the room from the glowing fish tank and beneath a lighting fixture that holds 14 candles, and our waiter offers to take us through the menu.

Never mind Throwback Thursday – at Grasso’s in Cold Spring Harbor, it’s all about Throwback Sunday as they mark a major milestone and celebrate a yearlong birthday party!

Every Sunday since January, owner Gail Grasso and her crew have been celebrating the 20th anniversary of the iconic Cold Spring Harbor dining destination, known as much for its exquisite fare as its artistic inclinations. (Plus table-side Bananas Foster and live jazz? Yes, please!)

From 3:30-8:30 p.m. on Sundays, they’re partying like it’s 1994, bringing back signature dishes (and even better, prices) from the first year they were open!

Black leather-like placemats, their corners embossed with the letters S-U-R and the silhouetted face of a cow, rest on white table cloths. The chairs are of a dark mahogany color and the steak knives are large. The water glasses are not cylindrical like the traditional American ones; they are inverted cones on thick stems.

Huntington village’s Sur Argentinian Steakhouse – a relatively new village establishment, having arrived in February 2014 after the departure of Canterbury Ales – is what co-owner Juan Reartes called “an authentic Argentinian place.”

As an Argentina native, who came to the United States about a decade and a half ago, he can say that.

When Joan and Paul Schreier ventured into the food industry in November 2011, they called their creation “Berry Healthy Café.” The café, sandwiched between arts and crafts store Michael’s and Five Guys Burgers and Fries in the shopping center beside the Walt Whitman mall, now goes by a new name: Berrylicious Café and Top-A-Pizza.

The “Top-A-Pizza” option – personalized pizzas made in 90 seconds – is new. Berry Healthy specialized in such offerings as smoothies, salads, wraps and frozen yogurt. Now, the name has changed and the menu features such options as pizza, wings and mozzarella sticks.

Jason Kitton’s XO Restaurant, Wine & Chocolate Lounge is coming into its own.

Now approaching the two-and-a-half year mark, Kitton’s “leap year baby” – the restaurant opened Feb. 29, 2012 after a brief sojourn on Clinton Street – continues to distinguish itself as a destination for fine, inventive dining, cocktails and fondue.

With its green-black marble-esque floors and wooden accents, Huntington village’s newly-opened Char Grille brings to the area both char-grilled meat and a Manhattan-style meeting place.

Even with the hum of heavy machinery nearby, passersby eagerly peek at the dishes of outdoor diners and through Char Grille's wide open, wooden-framed double doors.

Its façade now masked by metal fence signifying municipal parking lot construction, Massa’s Coal-Fired Brick Oven Pizzeria is a hidden rustic oasis.

The Huntington Village pizzeria came to its current location in February and offers a menu that is its own take on the traditional, meant to provide patrons with pizza reminiscent of the coal-fired concoctions of Italy. And though the Town of Huntington has closed the Gerard Street parking lot that faces its entrance for reconstruction, the doors of Massa’s are still wide open!

In the thoroughly modern Route 110 Corridor in Melville stands a portal to something Richie Cunningham would find familiar and comfortable amidst all the hustle and bustle.

Tucked away on northbound Route 110 at 535 Broad Hollow Road, the Happy Times Café is a joyous blast to the past, bursting with 1950s Americana at every turn.

Within a shopping center with a movie theater, a Dunkin Donuts, a bagel place and other assorted shops and eateries exists Elwood’s Baja Grill.

Both the menu and atmosphere are colorful and family-friendly – a fact that juxtaposes the existence of the margarita-filled drink menu.

Whether by land or by sea, you can’t go wrong at Jeff’s Surf and Turf in Huntington.

While the little eatery on New York Avenue is under new ownership – Vinnie Abbatiello, who owns Jeff’s Seafood in Halesite, took over in mid-March after closing the deal with Bravo! Nader owner, Nader Gebrin – and has a new look and some new menu items, the mission remains the same: give customers great food at an equally great price.

The waitress leads the way. When she arrives at a large rectangular table set for two, within a wrap-around booth that could easily seat six, she pulls the table out and into the aisle for ease of sitting. She waits for guests to take their seats and then replaces the table.

At Melville’s Blackstone Steakhouse, this sort of service matches both clientele attire and the prices next to menu items. Its ownership, Anthony Scotto Restaurants, also owns steak-and-sushi establishments Rare650 in Syosset and Insignia in Smithtown.

World Cup fever has taken hold of a popular Huntington locale known for inventive small plates and a selection of wines by the glass that’s second to none.

At Bin 56, located – where else? – at 56 Stewart Ave. in Huntington village – a string of miniature flags, representing each of the 32 nations that qualified for this World Cup, hangs on the awning, and will remain there until the Cup concludes, with the related fervor making Bin 56 a hot-spot place to be!

On tap at Huntington’s Osteria Da Nino are six whites, six reds and four beers, as the Main Street establishment, open once again after recent renovations, introduced its wines on tap last Thursday.

Fresh, wholesome food is truly a family affair at the new Mazzar Grill in Halesite.

Zabie Mustafa, who works full-time as an architect during the week and helps his parents, Frank and Shaokira, on the weekends, launched the Middle Eastern-inspired eatery six weeks ago with hopes of sharing “fresh and honest,” simply-prepared cuisine, drawing inspiration from their roots in Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.
