Steve Israel, the Congressman from Huntington, has in the past credited a vociferous reading habit to help him keep his sanity in the often-dysfunctional surroundings of Washington D.C. Turns out, putting pen to paper has played a role, too.

Those efforts have produced Israel’s first novel, “The Global War On Morris,” a political satire on the Simon & Schuster imprint which, in many cases, is not ripped from the headlines per se, but a bird’s eye view of a Congressman, formed into a novel that’s due out Jan. 6.

Huntington animator Timothy Peterson will be teaching the Stop Motion Claymation Workshop for Kids for students 10 years of age and up on four consecutive Saturdays this January.

Arranged on white walls at the Heckscher Museum of Art, photographs that look like paintings and etchings and drawings live next to frames displaying splashes of light and objects abstract and concrete. The exhibition is one of experimental photography – an art form within the photography field that is represented by the sect of photographers who practice “non-traditional” methods.

The Heckscher opened its “Modern Alchemy: Experiments in Photography” exhibition on Dec. 6. The two-gallery show begins with 20th-century works and travels up to present-day digital work, with the most recent works on display being images captured on the iPhone, Curator Lisa Chalif said.

One day after school in September, local teen-aged sisters Kelly and Kat Montenero recorded a video of themselves singing “Let It Go” from the hit movie “Frozen” in front of the plate rack in their kitchen.

By October, they were on a plane to California to be nationally recognized during the broadcast of the American Music Awards on Sunday and given starring roles in a Kohl’s commercial!

A Huntington Thanksgiving Day tradition returns for its 29th installment when runners take off for the Thanksgiving Day Run in two weeks.

Organized by the Townwide Fund of Huntington, the run draws thousands each year. Runners are encouraged to register now for the event, which starts at the American Legion Post 360 in Halesite on Thursday, Nov. 27. The 1K Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m. and the main run begins at 9 a.m.
