Centerport FD Responds to Chimney Fire

. Firefighters safely removed all the debris from inside the fireplace.

The Centerport Fire Department responded to reports of a chimney fire at a home on McKinley Terrace on Saturday, April 4, at about 6:40 pm. About 20 Centerport volunteer firefighters quickly arrived with a ladder truck, engine, ambulance and paramedic unit, under the direction of Chief Richard Miltner and Second Assistant Chief Kyle McLaughlin. Crews used the ladder truck to inspect the chimney as firefighters used a Thermal Imaging Camera to check the interior walls and found no hot spots or extension. Firefighters safely removed all the debris from inside the fireplace. The homeowner was advised to have the chimney cleaned and checked by a professional before again using the fireplace.
