This weekend is sure to contain lots of giant family barbeques; soaking in the sun poolside or at the beach; red, white and blue everything; and, of course, firework displays.

It was the ultimate tribute band fantasy. Billy Joel, whose songbook is covered by Mike DelGuidice and Big Shot, made a surprise appearance at the band’s gig at The Paramount on Friday, banging out three songs before a crowd of fans thrilled, if not dumbstruck, by their good fortune.

A crowd of over 250 people gathered Sunday to remember Charles Oddo, an East Northport native and police officer who was killed while on duty 20 years ago, by renaming Verleye Park in his honor.
