Walt Whitman’s legacy to Huntington has permanently planted its roots in the heart of its birthplace with an historic marker now standing near the barn where Whitman produced The Long-Islander 178 years ago.

The streets will are primed to be full of families dressed in red, white and blue on Monday, as several areas around town prepare for annual Memorial Day parades in honor of those brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve, the country.
