In the second quarter, quarterback John Paci launched the ball to receiver Taqwan Gooden-Hill for 30-yard touchdown. Veliz again converted the extra point to extend Huntington’s lead to 14-0.
“It felt good to put the first points on the board, but there was a lot of game left and we needed our players to keep going hard,” stated Steve Muller, Huntington’s head coach. “The last thing any of us wanted was for anyone to let up.”
Centereach kicked a field goal in the second quarter and scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter, but Huntington staved off the comeback attempt.
The Blue Devils are set to take the field again on Saturday, when they’re set to kickoff at 2:15 p.m. at Half Hollow Hills High School East.
