A Commack Middle School teacher is nearing the end of a journey that’s taken him across the nation in an effort to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Eighth-grade social studies teacher Chris Boundy has run 69 marathons across 49 states since setting out in 2011 to complete a marathon in each of the 50 states as both a personal accomplishment and fundraising campaign.

On Sunday, he’s expected to complete his mission when he competes in the Harford Marathon in Connecticut.

“Running marathons may not be easy, but it is nothing compared to what people go through every day when they are fighting cancer,” Boundy said in a press release. He added that he’s also a member of the Marathon Maniacs, a club for “folks that do crazy numbers of marathons.”

Boundy said that he’s raised $1,425 for St. Jude so far, but is hoping to reach his goal of $2,500 after his trip to Connecticut.

To help him out, Commack’s eighth-grade social studies classes are planning a fundraiser. To follow Boundy’s fundraising progress, visit bit.ly/1Rswaxu.
