A 40-year-old Dix Hills man was arrested on numerous charges, including DWI, after leading police on a 13-minute chase that spanned three Suffolk towns on Aug. 27, Suffolk police said.
Police say Robert Firmbach was driving a 2011 Hyundai erratically and hit another driver’s car while in traffic at Elwood Road and Olympia Place in East Northport. When they arrived at 9:27 p.m. and asked Firmbach to take a field sobriety test, he fled the scene in his car.
During the chase, Firmbach got into yet another accident, this time at Route 25 and Commack Road in Commack. Shortly after that incident, he was finally arrested at Wolf Hill Road and Deer Park Avenue in Dix Hills at 9:40 p.m.
Firmbach was charged with obstructing governmental administration, leaving the scene of a crime, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated and aggravated DWI, which, according to police, suggests that Firmback’s blood alcohol level was above the legal limit of .18 or greater.
Firmback was arraigned on Aug. 28 with his next court appearance scheduled for Sept. 2.
