Suffolk County Police arrested a homeless man on Friday for allegedly robbing a Commack bank earlier that day, and also for prior robberies in Patchogue and Riverhead, police said.
The man allegedly admitted he robbed the bank to obtain money to buy heroin, according to a criminal complaint provided by the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.
Police initially reported that a robbery had occurred at the Bank of America on 41 Veterans Memorial Highway in Commack at around 12:30 p.m. The suspect, 30-year-old Vincent Allen, allegedly handed a teller a note demanding cash. The suspect then fled on foot southbound.
He was also charged for robbing a TD Bank on 251 East Main Street in Patchogue on April 23. He was charged with two counts of third-degree robbery.
Additionally, the Riverhead Police Department will charge Allen with third-degree robbery for robbing a Capital One bank in Riverhead on April 26.
Later that day, police said they arrested Allen, saying he was held overnight at the Third Precinct. He was arraigned the next day at First District Court in Central Islip. He was held with $100,000 bond or $50,000 cash, which was not posted.
