After receiving a tip from a witness of an alleged gas station robbery in Commack on Jan. 22, Suffolk police arrested several people for multiple bank and gas station robberies that they said have occurred in the county over the last two months.
Police said a man entered the Shell gas station at 444 Commack Road in Commack on Jan. 22 at around 7 p.m. After making a purchase, the man pointed towards his waistband indicating he had a weapon, and made a verbal demand for cash. When the clerk didn’t comply, the man fled without proceeds into a waiting vehicle.
Police said a good samaritan followed the vehicle for a short distance and gave an accurate description to the police. Patrol officers saw a vehicle that matched the description and initiated a traffic stop, and ultimately arrested Stacey Beck, Shabril Maxwell and Douglas McKeefery.
Police said Maxwell had been a person of interest in several of the alleged bank and gas station robberies. Further investigation, police said, revealed Robert DiGrazia was also a person of interest. Police arrested DiGrazia at around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 28 in Deer Park.
Police said a thorough investigation between First Squad, Fourth Squad and Special Investigation Section detectives found that a total of eight gas stations and banks were robbed or attempted to be robbed by a combination of these suspects. Two of these alleged robberies or alleged attempted robberies were within the Town of Huntington:
• DiGrazia was charged with third-degree robbery for allegedly robbing the Roslyn Savings Bank at 693 East Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station on Dec. 29, 2015, at around 11:30 a.m.
• Maxwell and DiGrazia were charged with second-degree robbery for robbing the Roslyn Savings Bank at 693 East Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station on Jan. 19, 2016 at around 1:40 p.m.
Maxwell was charged with two other counts of third-degree robbery, one count of first-degree attempted robbery; and two counts of first-degree robbery. DiGrazia was charged with two other counts of third-degree robbery; and one count of first-degree robbery.
Maxwell, Beck, and McKeefery were also charged with third-degree attempted robbery for attempting to rob the Shell Gas Station at 444 Commack Road in Commack on Jan. 22 at around 7 p.m.
DiGrazia, 24, of Deer Park, was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday. Maxwell, 21, of Copiague; Beck, 32, of Bay Shore; and McKeefery, 30 of North Babylon, all were arraigned after their arrest.
Police said the investigation is continuing.
