Students from Stewart and Stratford Avenue elementary schools in Garden City recently presented toys to the U.S. Marine Corps for their Toys for Tots Drive at the Roosevelt Field Mall.
The toy donations were gathered by the students as part of an annual effort that allows children the opportunity to give back to others who are less fortunate during the holiday season.
“Toys for Tots isn’t just about toys,” said Nassau Executive Edward Mangano, who attended the event where the toys were given out. “It’s about sending a message of hope to less fortunate children who otherwise wouldn’t be receiving presents this holiday season. I urge residents, who can, to donate new un-wrapped toys to any of our County drop-off locations.”
For several years, Mangano has co-chaired the Toys for Tots Drive with Maj. Chuck Kilbride and the U.S. Marines. Kilbride has coordinated the Toys for Tots Drive for over 20 years, according to Mangano.
Donations of a new, un-wrapped toy can be made at any Nassau County building through Dec. 19, as well as at the Roosevelt Field Mall.
