Nassau Executive Edward P. Mangano joined representatives from the Long Island Cares Harry Chapin Food Bank and the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency last week to distribute free frozen turkeys and holiday trimmings to veterans at the VSA Building in East Meadow. All meals distributed included turkey, trimmings, canned vegetables and fruits.

“I thank Long Island Cares for partnering with us to ensure no veteran in Nassau County is without a meal this holiday season,” Mangano stated.

The LI Cares Harry Chapin Food Bank was founded in 1980 by the late Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter and social activist, Harry Chapin. It is a comprehensive hunger assistance organization, serving thousands of individuals and families in need – providing food to soup kitchens, emergency shelters, child care programs, disability organizations, veterans’ service programs and more. They also sponsor programs that promote self-sufficiency and educate the public about the causes and consequences of hunger on Long Island. Long Island Cares distributes more than six million pounds of nutritious food every year. Their vision is a hunger-free Long Island.
