Nassau Executive Edward Mangano was joined by Nassau legislators Rose Marie Walker and Laura Schaefer in hosting the 14th Annual Nassau County Active Duty Military Family Holiday Party at Cantiague Park Ice Rink on Saturday.

Nassau hosts the event to support the families of active duty military that live in base housing on Long Island. Children were treated to free ice skating, photos with Santa, a free lunch provided by local restaurants, toys provided by the Toys for Tots organization, and raffle prizes.

“We are very proud to host this holiday party in appreciation for all that the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces do to protect and defend our freedom and democracy,” Mangano said. “This day in the park is just one way of showing our gratitude and giving back to the military families that give so much for our nation.”

Sponsors of this years’ event included BAE Systems; Jewish War Veterans; John Theissen Children’s Foundation and the Toys for Tots, which donated toys for the children; SemperforVeterans; Igloo Lacrosse of Syosset; Homes for Heroes, which donated bikes; Marine First District; Cantiague Figure Skating Club; Balfour Beatty Communities; Hicksville Fire Department; East Meadow Kiwanis; and others who donated raffle prizes.
