Suffolk police are investigating a wrong-way crash that killed two people on the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills this morning.

Suspecting a DWI and stolen vehicle, police said, a Third Precinct officer attempted to stop a woman driver at around 2:40 a.m. in Central Islip. Police could not say where in Central Islip the stop occurred.

The unnamed woman fled the traffic stop and led police on a pursuit to the Northern State. There, the woman drove westbound in the eastbound lanes and crashed into a 2011 Honda Accord driven by a man. The crash occurred between exits 41 and 42 on the Northern State.

Police said the vehicles burst into flames and both drivers were killed.

Fire officials said the Dix Hills Fire Department responded to the crash with two rescue engines to extinguish the flames.

Both vehicles were impounded.

The road reopened a little after 10 a.m.
