A Brentwood man was arrested for drunken driving following a two-car crash in Dix Hills Tuesday night that left three injured, officials said.
A Dix Hills Fire Department spokesman said a man and two women were taken to Huntington Hospital with non-life threatening injuries following the crash at around 8 p.m. on Vanderbilt Parkway near Candlewood Path.
Police said Bernabe Ortegavela, 50, was driving a 2000 Toyota Sienna eastbound on Vanderbilt Parkway when his vehicle collided with a Nissan Maxima traveling westbound on Vanderbilt, causing the Maxima, with the two women inside, to lose control and crash through a wooded area off the road. Ortegavela crossed over the double-yellow lines and crashed into a utility pole in the westbound lane of Vanderbilt Parkway, police said.
About 30 Dix Hills volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel were on the scene with three heavy rescue trucks, three ambulances, first responder and paramedic units.
Ortegavela was arrested and charged with DWI and was set to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
