A sanitation worker was killed Monday when the vehicle he was riding on backed over him in Melville, police and town officials said.
Suffolk police said the incident occurred on Weinmann Boulevard around 6 a.m.
Huntington spokesman A.J. Carter identified the man as Jose Molina, who he said worked for the town’s sanitation contractor, Jody Enterprises of Babylon Inc., for more than five years. The driver was Jose Arroyo, Carter said.
Molina , 44, of 69 Oak St., Brentwood, was riding on the back of the truck and was struck by when it was going in reverse. He was found under the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Arroyo, 38, of Central Islip, was not injured.
Carter said the incident occurred near the intersection of Weinmann Boulevard and Raintree Road. He said GPS records showed that the vehicle was traveling less than 10 mph on Raintree, which is a cul de sac, and less than 20 mph on Weinmann in that area.
“The town sends their condolences and prayers to Jose Molina family,” Carter said.
Motor Carrier Safety Section officers conducted a safety inspection on the vehicle and it was released to Jody Enterprise, police said.
The investigation is continuing.
