ON THE DESSERT MAP: Dessert
lovers have a new stop in Huntington Village where Gerard
Fioravanti has teamed up with Nino Antuzzi to open Fiorello
Dolce, a pastry shop that’s as sophisticated as any
this side of the Champs D’Elysees. OK, so what do a
couple of guys with pretty Italian sounding names bring to
the pastry table? Mmmm… where to begin? Fioravanti is
a French Culinary Institute grad who obviously knows how to
handle a pastry bag; and Antuzzi’s credential’s
-- he owns Red and Osteria Da Nino, both in Huntington Village
– speak for themselves. The duo opened the doors to
their shop just a week ago and those with a taste for top-shelf
desserts have been finding their way there since. Inside,
an assortment of pastries and cakes – many topped with
fresh fruit – gleam like jewels from behind curved glass
display cases. The tarts, shortcakes, éclairs and Napoleans
are as much a treat for the eye as the palate. But don’t
save Fiorello Dolce for just those special occasions. Fresh
made brioche, turnovers, muffins and biscotti – along
with coffee and espresso drinks – are reason enough
to make the shop a regular stop. Fiorello Dolce (631-424-4024)
is tucked into a corner store at 57 Wall Street, next to favorite

and tell them the Foodies sent you.
FOODIE TIP: One major restaurant
food supplier has taught his kids not to eat ‘fresh’
fish at restaurants on Sunday night. It is almost always Friday’s
delivery at best. And even if it was once frozen, the weekend
certainly didn’t make it fresher. Imagine what happens
on those holiday weekends when Monday night is a big family
night out, but food supply delivery folks are at home all
weekend grilling their perfectly aged steaks. Think about
when a restaurant received their “fresh” fish.
Or ask. Nothing is black or white but unless you know the
chef; the Foodies recommend common sense.
