and Bar (117 New York Avenue, 631-385-1515, www.restaurantprime.com)
announces an exclusive demonstration by Executive Chef Richard
Farnabe at the Viking Cooking School at Loaves and Fishes
Cookshop (835 Franklin Avenue Garden City, www.vikingcookingschool.com)
on Saturday, April 21 from 12-2pm. Farnabe will demonstrate

Seared sea scallops — roasted red beets, clementine-almond
sauce; John Dory Wellington — foie gras, Chanterelle
mushrooms and sherry sauce; Veal loin Parmesan — Parmesan
crusted, caramelized penne and prosciutto. Farnabe learned
his trade in his homeland France then mastered it here with

in his Trump Tower restaurant Jean-Georges. Before joining
Prime, Farnabe managed three parallel stints as private chef
for Tommy Hilfiger, Executive Chef at Montrachet and late-night
chef for hotspot Lotus New York. To reserve a place at Farnabe’s
demonstration, call Viking Cooking School at 516-877-1010.
NEW STAR AT STARBUCKS: There’s a new
manager at what is seemingly Huntington Village’s social
center – Starbucks at Main and Wall Streets. We’ve
checked out Peter from our extensive connections at the various
latte locals in the Long Island region. Peter is from the
New Hyde Park store and is expected to bring great service
and a friendly atmosphere with him, though we haven’t
gotten a straight answer about the outdoor tables. Stop by
Starbucks and welcome him to Huntington. Tell him the Foodies
sent you.
ASIAN MARKET: There’s a lot of online
buzz about H&Y Supermarket (478 Plainview Road, Hicksville,
516-935-4041) which opened earlier this year at the intersection
of South Oyster Bay Road and Old Country Road. The Asian packaging
might make it a little difficult to find what you want, but
staff tries to be helpful. It sounds like the real deal.
OUTER SPACE DINING: What does the man who
has everything, have for dinner? Will multi gazillionaire
Charles Simonyi, a software pioneer who will be the fifth
tourist in outer space, has gotten his friend Martha Stewart
to cater a meal which is travelling with him aboard the Russian
Soyuz TMA spacecraft to the International Space Station. Stewart
has planned a gourmet menu to feed the crew and Simonyi at
the International Space Station. The menu consists of a six-course
meal including quail roasted in Madrian wine, duck breast
“confit” with capers, shredded chicken parmentier,
apple fondant pieces, rice pudding with candied fruit, and
semolina cake with dried apricots. The launch was scheduled
for April 7.
