I HEART JONATHANS: Celebrate Valentine’s Day with special menu offerings at Jonathan’s Ristorante (15 Wall St., Huntington 631-549-0055 jonathansristorante.com), Thursday, Feb. 14, starting at 5 p.m. Among the specials, served in addition to the regular a la carte menu, are: Appetizers: Oysters Rockefeller ($16); Organic Seared Sea Scallops with celery root purée, black truffle vinaigrette ($16); Entrees: Risotto di Mare with scallops, mussels, clams, shrimp, sweet prawn and saffron ($32); Spaghetti all’Aragosta, spaghetti with lobster in a spicy San Marzano tomato sauce; roasted Long Island duck breast with gnocchi alla Romana, vignarola salad and pomegranate sauce; and filet mignon with black truffle sauce, and potato-leek gratin

DON’T EAT THE RING! More than 4 million people a year get engaged on Valentine’s Day, according to an American Express survey. A good number of those proposals take place in restaurants, with prospective grooms often enlisting the help of wait staff to deliver the ring with dessert. Every waiter with more than a few years experience has been brought in on an engagement conspiracy, and we figure there have to be a handful of misplaced or swallowed ring stories as well. A recent Facebook post by Tellers Chophouse shows they have the good sense not to hide the goods in the custard, instead writing the future hubby’s sentiments on a plate in chocolate glaze, the ring nestled safely to the side on a white napkin.

DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE: The former home of Twisted Vine won’t be empty for long. Signage is up announcing a new restaurant, Doppio, a fine Italian bistro, is on the way this spring at 24 Clinton Ave. Their sister restraint, up in Greenwich, Conn., opened in 2011 after brothers Louis and Joseph Barresi spent many summers in southern Italy sampling the creations of fine restaurants and off-the-beaten-path gems, and felt obligated to share that with us back in the USA. They focus on authentic Italian cooking with traditional and classic favorites as well as new dishes created by master pizzaiolo Giuseppe Paciullo, who calls on his roots in Salerno, Italy, for inspiration and focus. Based on what we saw, we’re in for a real treat down here in Huntington. Check out www.eatdoppio.com for more information and to get your taste buds revved up for springtime.

SERVE YOURSELF WELL: Don’t be so fast to toss your ticket stub. That’s because Red Mango Yogurt & Smoothies (24 Wall St., Huntington village, 631-923-2023) is offering a special for those who saw a movie earlier in the day. Bring in your ticket stub from earlier in the day, and you’ll get 30-percet off your self-serve purchase. It’s a great way to introduce yourself to the 2011-2012 No.1 Zagat-rated smoothie/frozen yogurt chain in the United States, or reacquaint yourself with a favorite.

FREE CARBS: Thursday is free Italian bread day at Reinwald’s Bakery (495 New York Ave., Huntington, 631-424-4034, www.reinwaldsbakery.com). Purchase any bread (except Italian), and receive a free loaf of Italian bread while supplies last. It’s a perfect deal when visiting the Italians in your life on Sundays.
