NEW?YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS: Weight loss is a common vow when the New Year rings in, so keep the Berry Healthy Café (350 Walt Whitman Road, Huntington Station 631-923-2478) in mind as you pursue that. The casual eatery focuses on healthym nutritious fare, including fresh fruit smoothies, frozen yogurts and warm savories like toasted wraps/paninis, chopped salads and soups. Their mantra is “eat wiser, live healthier,” and they prove it can be done on the run, too.

I’M MELTING: Our editor got in the holiday spirit this year by making her first-ever batch of Melting Snowman Sugar Cookies. She said the recipe is simple, but it’s the decorating that takes up most of your time. You’ll need: a recipe for basic sugar cookies, white icing, several tubes of colored icing (one should be black or brown), and marshmallows. After you bake the sugar cookies, cover them with the white icing. Pop a marshmallow into the microwave for 10 seconds at most, and then plop it on the cookie. Decorate the marshmallow with the dark icing (a black food marker works too), giving your snowman a face, and use the dark and colored icings on the cookie to give him arms, a scarf, and anything else you’d like. If you’re feeling really festive, dig through a bottle of sprinkles and use the orange ones for a carrot-like nose. In the end, you’ll have a yummy treat that’s appropriate all winter long.

TAP & APP TUESDAYS: Finnegan’s Restaurant & Tap Room (5 Wall St., Huntington, 631-423-9696), a local landmark since 1912 and the oldest continuous operating bar in Huntington, gives Tuesdays a reason to be the best day of the week. The menu includes: Buffalo wings, chicken fingers, nachos rancheros, spinach and artichoke dip, and roasted red pepper bruschetta. Tap specials include Lessing’s Local Ale, Lessing’s Local Blonde Summer Ale, Blue Moon, Miller Light and Samuel Adams.
