TASTE OF SOUTHERN ITALY: The high point (in our opinion) of Italian Week at Porto Vivo (7 Gerard St., Huntington 631-385-8486 www.porto-vivo.com) comes tonight, Thursday, March 1 with Chef Joseph Balbo’s six-course tasting menu with wine pairings. Dinner starts at 7 p.m. with tuna crudo antipasti: sliced hamachi tuna with toasted pignoli, arugula and black olive faux caviar with salmorilgio sauce, paired with Grillo by AZ Vitivinicola, Tonnino Sicily. Course two – pesce – is grilled swordfish with fennel, tomato, citrus basil compote and blood orange emulsion, paired with a Sauvignon Blanc (Villa Di Grazia) by Marco Maci Vini, Puglia. The pasta course: sheep’s milk ricotta gnocchi with sausage and broccoli rabe paired with Pecorino Primitivo by Marco Maci, Puglia. Pouring with the main course of lamb loin with eggplant puree, roasted artichoke and crispy fried Nero-soaked grapes will be Nero D’Avola by Vitivinicola Tonnino, Sicily; and a second entrée of braised beef short rib will be accompanied by Negroamaro by Marco Maci, Puglia. The six-course meal starts at 7 p.m. in the fireplace dining room and reservations are a must. You’ll be speaking the language before you leave.

TIME FOR TEA: We spend a lot of time talking about coffee in this column without ever giving tea a fair shake. So here we go… follow American tea expert David Lee Hoffman to China in search of the world’s finest teas at a screening of “All In This Tea,” Tuesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m., followed by a tea-tasting at Cinema Arts Centre (423 Park Ave, Huntington 631-423-7611 www.CinemaArtsCentre.org). $9 for members, $13 for non-members includes a reception and tea-tasting by The Tea Plant and Sacred Rose. It’s part of Cinema Arts Centre’s “Let’s Eat! Films on Food” series that explores the world of food.
