MEET LIDIA: Lidia Bastianich,
the reigning matriarch of Italian cooking in America, will
be talking about and signing her newest cookbook, Lidia's
Italy in America, on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 7 p.m. at Huntingtons
Book Revue (313 New York Ave., Huntington village 631-271-1442).
The popular host of the PBS cooking show Lidia's Italy,
Bastianich is owner or partner in Felidia, Becco, Del Posto
and Esca in New York City, and Lidias in Kansas City
and Pittsburgh. She is also a part owner of Eataly, a gargantuan
market in New Yorks Flatiron district that evokes the
markets of southern Italy. Her newest cookbook a companion
book to her upcoming public television series of the same
name takes us on a road trip into the heart of Italian
American cooking. After thousands of miles and many meals,
Lidia's Italy in America showcases industrious
Italian-American cooks from all over the country farmers,
housewives, butchers, ?shermen, and food entrepreneurs
and gives recognition to those who have honored the traditions
of their homeland in a delicious new style. Mmmmm. Sure wish

RESTAURANT WEEK EXTRA: With 55 restaurants and only an eight-day
week, DineHuntington Restaurant Week participating eateries
can get pretty competitive. The folks at Vitae Restaurant
& Wine Bar (54 New St., Huntington village 631-385-1919
www.vitaeli.com) have an additional offer during Huntington
Restaurant Week; an additional $24.95 will get you a bottle
of Emiliana Natura un-oaked organic Chardonnay from Chile,
or the Sawbuck Cabernet Sauvignon from Mendocino, California.
GOT JUICE: Juice Box, Huntingtons original smoothie,
wraps and salads place, has thrown in the towel. The eatery
at the corner of Wall and Gerard Streets apparently fell victim
to the recent proliferation of smoothie joints, including
a nearby Red Mango and Tropical Smoothie Café.
