TAKE IT OUTSIDE: We Foodies love that there are so many restaurants in town with sidewalk seating. For those who like to see and be seen, there’s nothing like being able to enjoy a great meal amid the hustle and bustle of a busy downtown. Meehan’s of Huntington owners Michael and Patrick Meehan bring together the best of both worlds with the Courtyard outside Meehan’s of Huntington (371 New York Ave., Huntington 631-351-0831 www.meehansrestaurant.com) . Michael and Patrick Meehan carved the space from an alleyway connected to their restaurant. Behind an attractive gate, the courtyard’s flowering plants, a friendly mural and plenty of fresh air and sunshine make a comfy space to enjoy Meehan’s hearty comfort food, yet close enough to the street to be in the middle of all the action. And there’s always a water bowl by the entryway to make four-legged foodies feel welcome.

A ROCKY START: Huntington Social (330 New York Ave., Huntington huntingtonsocial.com) hit a bump in the road after a successful opening a few weekends ago. The speakeasy-themed gastropub and cocktail lounge in the former Chesterfield’s (upstairs atNew York Ave. and Main St.) will be closed for another week or two after a small fire in a wall Friday night. No one was hurt and according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page, the Social expects to be open again in a little more than a week.

JELLYFISH NEWS: The long-awaited Jellyfish Restaurant (441 E.main St., Centerport 631-262-0300 www.eatatjellyfish.com) is close to opening. Owner Ralph Colamussi is putting the finishing touches on a painstaking restoration of the restaurant on Mill Pond just east of his Thatched Cottage catering hall. The building, which has housed a restaurant for the better part of a century, was in its most recent incarnation Pier 441. It’ been restored with a Victorian flavor. Heading up the kitchen will be Heather West, a champion of the reality TV show Hell’s Kitchen who has put together a family-friendly, “roadside” menu with an emphasis on seafood. Yes, there will be jellyfish on the menu. “Crispy fried jellyfish,” said West. The primeval sea critters will figure prominently in the décor as well. Colamussi has installed several large fish tanks in the restaurant where jellyfish will swim safely. Expected to open in September, Jellyfish watchers can get a preview of the restaurant August 24 when it launches a dinner-and-a-show partnership with the John W. Engeman Theatre at Northport - dinner at Jellyfish followed by a performance at Engeman of the musical “Hairspray.” Call the theater at 631-261-2900 for details.

TAKE FLIGHT: Vitae Restaurant and Wine Bar (54 New St., Huntington 631-385-1919 www.vitaeli.com) offers three categories of wine flights including: summer whites; California reds and whites; and Italian reds. The flights of four, curated by General Manager John Estevez, are priced from $17 for an international foursome of summer whites, to $21.50 for “best of” red or white selections from California.
