VITAE: TO LIFE!: Youve
got to get up pretty early in the morning to beat a true Foodie
to the hottest new restaurant news. For the rest of the world,
Vitae recently held a grand-opening ribbon-cutting celebration
at their newly opened restaurant on New and Carver streets
in Huntington village. Joining owner Linda Rehnstedt and general
manager John Estevez on the balcony are members of the Huntington
Township Chamber of Commerce board of directors, town board
members Mark Cuthbertson and Susan Berland, and Town Clerk
Jo-ann Raia.
FOOT-LONG STEAK: If aging is good for steaks, its great
for steakhouses. For more than a quarter century, The Clubhouse
has been the place for steaks in Huntington. This
week, owner Jeff Bies foot-long skirt steak special
served with bourbon donions and mushrooms
is $25 per person. The special changes after Friday, July
29.
FISH FEAST: For a recent North Shore Animal League benefit
featuring puppies, kittens, Ferraris and the wife of Howard
Stern, Prime An American Kitchen (117 New York Ave.,
Huntington 631-385-1515 www.restaurantprime.com) brought on
the fishes. Executive Chef Gregg Laulettas pescatorian
menu included sushi and maki rolls; daikon rice cakes with
roasted chili soy sauce; wild mushroom arancini; wild mushroom
tempura; vegetarian spring rolls with rice noodles, lettuce,
mint and peanut sauce; kabocha rice cakes with ginger coconut
sauce, green onion oil and sesame seeds; yellow tail sashimi
with cucumber relish; fried shrimp ball with lemon mayo and
chives; spicy tuna tartar with green onions, cilantro and
sesame rice crackers; shrimp tempura; Gorgonzola dolce with
fig jam; and goat cheese with candied pecan and white balsamic.
Great stuff!
FOR YOU, LOCALVORES: The next best thing to growing your own,
and much less work, is hitting your local farm stand. And
while those are becoming scarcer and scarcer, there are a
handful of farmers markets out there bringing locally grown
produce to your backyard. In Huntington village, hit the Elm
Street parking lot on the Main Street side Sundays between
7 a.m. and noon. In Northport, the veggies roll in to the
Cow Harbor Park parking lot Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 1
p.m.
