WINE DINNER: Bel Posto Executive
Chef Michael Ross and Verity Wine Partners have collaborated
to produce an Italian Wine Night celebrating the best of modern
Italian cuisine and traditional Italian wines. After a five-course
menu with five Italian wine pairings, youll be speaking
Italian by the time you finish dessert. Its set for
7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26. The cost is $60 per person. www.belpostony.com.
ITS THE ECONOMY, STUPID: The ink wasnt even dry
on New Yorks gay marriage bill before Rep. Steve Israel
and Long Island Tourism President Moke McGowan called a press
conference to promote the regions catering halls, restaurants
and everything else associated with weddings. Apparently approving
gay marriage rights is more than just the right thing to do,
its an economic development thing. The press conference,
held at nationally known wedding destination Oheka Castle,
announced that the Visitors Bureau and Long Island GLBT Services
Network will work together to promote Long Island as a great
place to get married. The GLBT Services Network has already
launched a website (www.longislandgayweddings.org) to help
same-sex couples plan their wedding.
MOVIE NIGHT: Monday night is movie night at Prime An
American Kitchen and Bar (117 New York Ave., Huntington, 631-385-1515,
www.restaurantprime.com). Guests can sit on Primes grassy
knoll, dockside on the boardwalk or porch to view movies on
a 150-inch screen behind the Cabana Bar where they can also
order popcorn, ice cream, a barbecue menu and cocktails. Coming
up: July 11, The Breakfast Club; July 18, Goodfellas;
July 25, Back to the Future.
ALLEZ, LES GOURMETS: If you really need an excuse to visit
a French bistro, July 14 is Bastille Day. To celebrate the
day Frances monarchy collectively lost their heads,
get yourself to the nearest French restaurant and order like
it was your last meal before heading to the guillotine. Huntingtons
Bistro Cassis (55B Wall St., Huntington, 631-421-4122, www.bistrocassis.com)
is a casual French bistro for the hoi poloi. For a more regal
experience, Amicale Dining Experience (872 E. Jericho Tpke.,
Huntington Station, 631-351-1727, amicalerestaurant.com) is
not strictly French, but its continental menu is heavily influenced
by Franco cuisine and all those chandeliers will have you
thinking youre in Versailles. Remember to pay tribute
to Marie Antoinette who said, Let them eat cake!
by ordering dessert.
MANGIA, BABY: Fans of family-style restaurants can enjoy a
three-course family-style dinner for $29.95 per person, Sunday
through Friday at Ciao Baby (1087-1159 Jericho Tpke, Commack,
631-543-1400, ciaobabyrestaurant.com).
