WINE & JELLY BEANS:
In an attempt to take wine to the masses, the crazy crew at
Wine X Magazine (www.winexmagazine.com) has taken the world
class Jelly Belly beans and have created the “Jelly
Bean Wine Bar” declaring it “a fun, educational
and flavorful addition to any party.” Wines, or varieties
of wine (i.e., chardonnay, pinot noir, etc.) have certain
indigenous fruit characteristics associated with their aromas
and flavors. Using the appropriate tiny fruit-flavored jelly
beans in the right combination the palate is treated to a
flavor experience associated with a varietal wine (i.e., a
cherry jelly bean to highlight pinot noir’s signature
cherry characteristic). Each kit contains a “recipe”
tested by WineX for a specific varietal/style of wine. Just
combine the beans as directed, chew them, and voila, you’ll
experience the generic flavors associated with the particular
wine you’re currently “researching.” For
a California Pinot Noir for example, combine two cherry
Jelly Beans with one each of French Vanilla, Buttered Toast,
Cappuccino, Raspberry, Strawberry, Plum, Pink Grapefruit,
and Pepper. You get the idea. Check their website for kits
and prices. WineX says, “Remember: the whole idea is
to have fun.” But some Foodie friends say they are waiting
for someone to come out with wine Jelly Beans that give you
a buzz. Hmmm!
