BILLYS IN THE HOUSE: Talk about discreet
Music
superstar Billy Joel dined upstairs at Porto Vivo (7 Gerard
St., Huntington 631-3858486 www.porto-vivo.com) Friday night
to celebrate girlfriend Alexis Rodericks 30th birthday,
and other than restaurant staff, no one seemed to even know
the Piano Man was in the house. Chalk one up for Porto Vivo
staff who managed to let the singer/songwriter keep a low
profile. Roderick, who lives in Centerport and works for Morgan
Stanleys Garden City office, once confessed to the Daily
News that she and Joel met at a restaurant in Huntington.
She didnt say which one but Porto Vivo is clearly a
favorite. For her party held on the restaurants third
floor, Executive Chef Giuseppe Napoli prepared a menu with
wines of Italy that gave the party a taste of just about everything.
A selection of passed hors doeuvres included Porto Vivos
signature crispy grilled artichoke and goat cheese; moved
on to appetizers of grilled tiger prawn or smoked salmon;
a middle course of mushroom and asparagus risotto; and entrees:
filet mignon with a Barolo sauce, seared sea scallops with
sautéed spinach, or pan-roasted chicked with pumpkin
ravioli, spicy cashews and Swiss chard. For dessert, guests
had strawberry and white-chocolate Napolean or Joys
creamy cheesecake, Porto Vivo owner Joy Manganos recipe.
Following a lengthy and paparazzi-free dinner, Joel and his
girl managed to slip out of the restaurant and into a waiting
SUV practically unnoticed.
