TASTE OF LI: Get ready to wine and dine. Taste of Long Island, the annual fundraising event co-presented by East Northport Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club of East Northport, will honor Visiting Nurse Service CEO Linda Taylor on Thursday, March 31 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Larkfield Manor. The wine will flow and you’ll enjoy tastings from some of the area’s top restaurants. Just a few of this year’s are: Tutto Pazzo, Waterside Caterers, The Melting Pot, Lark Pub & Grub, Quetzacoatl, Pumpernickels, Northport Fish & Lobster, Legal Sea Foods, Filetto’s, Crossroads Cafe, Crew Kitchen & Bar, Copenhagen Bakery, Big Bear Pizzelli, Cafe Buenos Aires, Mascali Italian Restaurant, La Villini, Madison’s Grille, Nonnina, Whale’s Tale, Nocello’s and Andrea’s 25. GOT BEER? Go 4-for-4 at Rookies Sports Club’s (70 Gerard St, Huntington 631-923-0424 www.rookiesny.com) first-ever Beer Dinner, Tuesday, March 29, 7-9 p.m. For $39 a head, Rookies fans can enjoy a four-course meal accompanied by four different brews from New York’s own Ithaca Brewery. They’ll pair spinach salad with Ithaca’s Apricot Wheat beer; BBQ ribs paired with Ithaca Flower Power; skirt steak with mashed potatoes and veggies paired with Ithaca’s Gorges Smoked Porter; and for dessert, banana bread cake and ice cream paired with White Gold Pale Ale. OPEN FOR SMOOTHIES: Tropical Smoothie Cafe (61 Wall St., Huntington 631- 424-8767 www.tropicalsmoothiecafe.com) is officially open right next door to Black & Blue Steak and Chophouse. Drop on by and give one of their smoothies a whirl, or try a sandwich, wrap or salad. Owner Billy Nestor, a longtime Huntington resident, said, “Huntington is a great town and we’re excited to be in Huntington Village.” Billy and the staff will welcome town officials and Huntington Chamber of Commerce representatives at a ribbon-cutting March 31 at 4:30 p.m. to officially open the new (and already open) shop, but the real party is Saturday, April 2 when Tropical Smoothie Cafe throws a grand opening celebration. There’ll be prizes and giveaways, and a celebrity appearance by former New York Jets running back Freeman McNeil from noon to 2 p.m.

COOKING LESSONS: OK, so Stony Brook is a bit of a hike, but how often do you get to learn at the stove of a master? Chef Guy Reuges of Mirabelle Restaurant at the Three Village Inn (150 Main St., Stony Brook 631-751-0555 www.threevillageinn.com) shares his mastery in bi-monthly themed cooking courses featuring recipes to be compiled for a cookbook. The first theme in April is “spa menu” with recipes that are flavorful but low in salt and calories for the spring season. Students will have two opportunities to catch the same class with the first lesson on Thursday, April 7 and Thursday, April 21 at 7 p.m. Cost is $80 per class or $300 for four classes. Prior to his current gig, Reuge and his wife Maria operated Mirabelle in St. James, considered one of Long Island’s finest restaurants.

RESTAURANT WEEK: It’s not too early to start planning your Long Island Restaurant Week menus. The first-ever spring edition of Long Island Restaurant Week runs April 3-11 and features three-course, prix-fixe dining for $24.95 (Saturday to 7 p.m. only) at dozens of restaurants islandwide. In fact, more than 125 have signed on. In the Town of Huntington, participating restaurants include: Ciao Baby, Commack; Bel Posto Ristorante Enoteca, Besito Mexican Kitchen and Agave Lounge, Bistro Cassis, Black and Blue Seafood Chophouse, Café Buenos Aires, The Clubhouse, Fado, HONU Kitchen & Cocktails, and Mac’s Steakhouse in Huntington; Legal Sea Foods and Panama Hatties, Huntington Station; and Four Food Studio, Melville.
