THEY GOT THE BEAT: Thursday is Ladies Night
at Huntington hotspot Porto Vivo (7 Gerard St., Huntington,
631-385-8486 www.port-vivo.com) where DJ Bobby Beats is on
the soundboard in the bar. Drinks are half-price for the ladies,
and the music is free for all.
SANDWICH SPOT: Were hearing good things about the recently
opened Roast Sandwich House (827 Walt Whitman Road, Melville,
631-629-4869 www.roast sandwichhouse.com) in the spot that
used to house Dinos Joint. We havent had a chance
to try them yet, though from what one fellow foodie told us
about the homemade mozzarella, well be finding an excuse
to visit Roast soon. If you get there first, shoot the Foodies
an email at foodie@longislandernews.com.
GOT WINGS: We in the publishing industry were recently reminded
by the NFL that the phrase Super Bowl and just about every
other football term worth uttering is copyrighted, worth a
bazillion dollars and theirs to use exclusively. That means
they dont want to see it used in any advertisement without
the express permission of the NFL which, for a substantial
fee, will let you use some of the many football related terms
they have sewn up. So were not quite sure how to mention
the Sunday football special at Rookies Sports Club (70 Gerard
St., Huntington village, 631-923-8424 www.rookiesny.com) except
to say this: a dozen wings, a pitcher of Miller or Coors,
$14.99, during Sunday football. Call it what you like. And
tell Michelle the Foodies sent you.
FOOTBALL FEVER: Copenhagen Bakery (85 Woodbine Ave., Northport,
631-754-3256) was showing their Gang Green pride leading up
to last Sundays AFC Championship game. Owner Flemming
Hansen whipped up some Jets football helmet sugar cookies
($4.95 each) and a chocolate fanatics dream a
chocolate cake with chocolate mousse covered in chocolate
ganache, in the shape of a football for $25. We finished
this entry before the Jets hit the gridiron Sunday, but if
they win, its a great way to show your Jets pride and
satisfy your sweet tooth at the same time.
BEER TASTING: Canterbury Ales (314 New York Ave., Huntington,
631-549-4404 www.canterburyales.com) hosts its wildly popular
Winterfest beer tasting on Sunday, Feb. 13, from noon to 3:30
p.m. Its five courses and 10 beers (two beers paired
with each course) and a party favor to take home
with you. Tickets are $80 per person and must be purchased
in advance.
