JAZZ TRIO: Enjoy world class jazz and some
pretty fine dining when the Danny Mixon Trio (piano, bass
and drums) plays for the dinner hour at Grassos (134
Main St., Cold Spring Harbor 631-367-6060 www.grassosrestaurant.com)
on Friday, Jan. 14 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Danny Mixon has
the punch that can knock you out of your seat. Hes a
former piano chair of the Count Basie Orchestra, under the
direction of Frank Foster and also with Savion Glover, of
tap dancing fame. A former dancer himself, Mixon brings a
lot of that fire and energy to his piano playing. Enjoy!
PERFECT TOGETHER: Fine wines and fine dining are always on
the menu at Ruvo (63 Broadway, Greenlawn 631-261-7700 www.ruvorestaurant.com),
but the Denicola brothers take it up a notch with a wine dinner
Jan. 13. Six courses will take diners from hors doeurvres
through dessert, and each is paired with an appropriate selection
from Jamesport or Pellegrini Vineyards. The cost is $70 per
person and reservations are a must.
WINTER FARMERS MARKET: Localvores will be happy to know
that a winter farmers market opens Saturday, Jan. 15
at St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Northport. Some
15 vendors associated with G&G Farmers Market of Long
Island will bring fresh, natural and locally sourced food
every other week throughout the winter and early spring. G&Gs
Jaime Greci said the market will offer opportunities to meet
and interact with growers and producers while stocking up
on the kind of healthy food that is in increasing demand.
We are committed to providing a safe and friendly environment
that will benefit both the farmers and their customers,
he said. It will be a healthy experience all around,
with activities for kids and live entertainment, as well as
delicious organic and natural food. Among the vendors
are Mostly Myrtles, offering its original biskooky,
a cross between a cookie and a biscotti; The Tea Plant; Migliorelli
Farms; Hormans Best Pickles; All You Knead Artisan Bakery;
and Naturally Handmade by Susan. G&G Farmers Market
will set up at St. Pauls, located at 270 Main St. in
Northport, every other Saturday beginning Jan. 15 and running
through April. For more information, contact the church office
at 631-261-0804.
