Family Brunch with Santa: Porto Vivo

and Huntington Hospital have joined forces to give back to
children in need this holiday season. For three Sundays in
December, the 5th, 12th and 19th, Porto Vivo will host a family
brunch with Santa. Bring the kids to visit with Santa and
run down their wish lists for the holiday, and for an opportunity
to give back as well. Children are encouraged to bring an
unwrapped toy to Santa, who will deliver the gifts to children
at the Huntington Hospitals Dolan Family Health Center.
Brunch begins at 10:30 a.m. and Santa arrives at 11 a.m. The
regular brunch menu will be offered as a two-course, $17 prix
fixe. Children 8 and under eat free and will choose from a
separate childrens menu.
WIN Chocolate THE Moose: Bon Bons
Chocolatier (319 Main St., Huntington 631-549-1059 www.bonbonschocolatier.com)
is raffling off a plush Hansa Moose this holiday
season. He stands 4-feet tall and is equally long and is a
deep, huggable brown. His name? Chocolate, of course! Chocolate
the Moose is on display at Bon Bons and carries a 1-1/2 pound
box of the shops latest confection, chocolate mousse.
He is valued at over $600. Raffles are $5 each and can be
purchased at the store, or call 631-549-1059. One lucky winner
will be drawn on Thursday, Dec. 23, just in time for a holiday
surprise.
GREAT CHEFS, GREAT FUNDRAISER: If
the best way to a persons wallet is through the stomach,
then Family Service Leagues Great Chefs of Long Island
is the perfect fundraiser. Scheduled for next Sunday, Dec.
5, 2-5 p.m. at the Crest Hollow Country Club, the event brings
more than 40 of the areas top restaurants and chefs
into one room where guests may sample their signature dishes.
In addition, youll enjoy wines from around the world
and live music. This years honorees are: Ken Silverman
of SilvermanAcampora, who will receive the Community Leadership
Award; Bank of America, which will receive the Corporate Leadership
Award; and John J. Tunney III, who will receive the Restaurateur
of the Year Award. Advance registration is $175 per person

MEET NONNA LIDIA: Celebrate an Italian
Christmas with Lidia Bastianich, host of the PBS cooking show
Lidias Italy, as she speaks about and signs
her new book, Nonna Tell Me A Story: Lidias Christmas
Kitchen, Dec. 16, 7 p.m. at Book Revue (313 New York
Ave., Huntington 631-271-1442). In her new book, Lidia shares
the story of celebrating Christmas in Italy with her five
grandchildren. When Lidia was a child, she spent Christmas
with her grandparents and learned to cook with her Nonna Rosa
by preparing food in their smokehouse and kitchen. Lidia and
her brother would also find a big juniper bush to cut down
for their holiday tree, and decorated it with nuts, berries,
and herbs they collected for their meals. Lidias new
picture book is filled with Christmas traditions, recipes
and decorating ideas.
