Perfecto Mundo:
In Spanish it means "perfect world," and to these
Foodies, it's a perfect world when Steve Del Lima is cooking
in it. Del Lima, most recently at Black & Blue and previously
at Wild Fin in Huntington, is executive chef at Perfecto Mundo
Latin Fusion Bistro (1141-1 Jericho Tpke, Commack 631-864-2777
www.perfectomundony. com). Chef/owner Liz Keschl just opened
the restaurant in the former Maize Cantina in Commack. Perfecto
Mundo specializes in Latin Fusion cuisine with an emphasis
on seafood. Fresh-made guacamole is out of this world, the
lobster quesadilla is a real uptown twist on a Mexican favorite,
and the seafood paella will have your tongue atwitter. Celebrate
their grand opening Oct. 6 with half-price appetizers, half-price
house margaritas and live music by Peter Mazzeo's band. The
restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday for dinner and will
be open for lunch beginning Oct. 5.
Bel Posto Opens: The former Mangiamo
has a new name, new interior and a chef with a pedigree. The
Iannucci family has turned the kitchen over to Executive Chef
Michael Ross, formerly of Fiddleheads in Oyster Bay and Huntington
and owner/chef at Jedediah Hawkins Inn in Jamesport. The exciting
new menu at Bel Posto (15 New St., Huntington 631-421-4600
www.belpostony.com) interprets Italian cuisine with a contemporary
approach and one eye always on presentation. One of the few
places in town to offer crudo - the Italian equivalent of
sushi - Bel Posto serves a yellowfin served simply with preserved
tomatoes, olive tapenade and sea salt. Prefer your seafood
cooked? Ross does so flavorfully with a roasted salmon with
autumn ratatouille and tomato fennel broth. Bel Posto is now
open.
COFFEE & CHOCOLATE: Georgio's
Coffee will host a Coffee and Chocolate tasting with Roxanne
Browning from Exotic Chocolate Tasting at the Meisner Art
Gallery, 115 Schmitt Boulevard, Farmingdale on Oct. 17, 4-5
p.m. Georgio and Roxanne will pair artisan organic chocolates
with specialty coffees from around the world. $30 for four
pairings; pre-registration required, no refunds. RSVP at 516-238-2999
or worldcupl@optonline.net.
Autumn Harvest Menu: Few do a harvest
menu like Ruvo (63 Broadway, Greenlawn 631-261-7700 www.restaurantruvo.com).
That special season is in full swing at Ruvo where Executive
Chef Joe DeNicola offers a three-course, prix fixe dinner
that celebrates the local harvest. It's $25.95 per person,
or $45.95 with unlimited Long Island wines, Sunday through
Thursday from 4 p.m. on.
HUNTINGTON RESTAURANT WEEK: To date,
61 restaurants are on board for Huntington Restaurant Week.
From October 10-17, participating restaurants offer a three-course
meal for $24.95 per person, and with many more restaurants
than there are days to try them, they're being pretty competitive.
What a great chance to try some new restaurants, as well as
those newcomers to the scene. See the restaurants and check
out the menus www.DineHuntington.com.
APPLE FESTIVAL: Apple Festival time
brings bushels full of fun to Huntington Historical Society's
Kissam House and Barn on Sunday, Oct. 17. In addition to enjoying
candy apples, fresh baked pies and cold fresh cider, learn
how bread baking was done during the Colonial Era in a beehive
oven; dance to toe-tapping, finger-snapping music; try your
hand at scarecrow making and pumpkin painting; and enjoy other
demonstrations on the Kissam House lawn. Oh, and did we mention
candy apples? Visit www.huntingtonhistoricalsociety.org.
