WHAT A RADISH: The Foodies encountered something new at Jonathan’s Ristorante (15 Wall St., Huntington village 631-549-0055 www.jonathansristorante.com). Watermelon radish, also known as Rose Heart radish, is an heirloom variety of daikon radish with a sweet flavor and bright pink heart. Sliced crosswise and micro-thin, it resembles a miniature watermelon. We found them amid the watercress and roasted watermelon (yes, roasted!) garnishing sweet water prawns at Jonathan’s. The prawns – cooked and served with the heads still on – were sweet and tender, but the dish was a gorgeous celebration of color. If you’re lucky, it will return to the specials menu at Jonathan’s.

RESTAURANT WEEK: Save your appetites; Dine Huntington Restaurant Week is set for Oct. 10-17. Nearly 60 restaurants from across Huntington Township have signed on so far, surpassing last year’s number. Among them are: newly opened Perfecto Mundo, Harbor Mist and Fado; soon-to-open Swallow; and longtime favorites like Prime, Porto Vivo, Jonathan’s and Ruvo. Check out the list (it grows daily) of participating restaurants and preview the menus at www.dinehuntington.com.
ARTS AND EATS: Have a nosh and enjoy the art this Sunday, Sept. 19 at Caffe Portofino (249 Main St., Northport 631-262-7656 www. caffeportofino11768.com). From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., owner Lisa Harris hosts a reception for artist Andrea M. Gordon whose works are on display this month. Portofino’s Sunday brunch is a delight.
