DINE HUNTINGTON:
Save the dates and save your appetite for Dine Huntington Restaurant Week, Oct. 10-17 (If you wrote down September dates based on previous columns, erase ’em. Dine Huntington will again follow the LI Fall Festival presented by our Restaurant Week co-sponsor, Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce.) Some of Huntington’s finest dining spots have already signed on and will offer a 3-course, prix-fixe dining experience for $24.95 per person. Among the first to come aboard are Red, Osteria da Nino, Tutto Pazzo, Rookies Sports Club, Almarco and La Bottega… and we’re just getting started. Tell your favorite restaurant to get on board.

GOURMET SUMMER SPECIALS: Porto Vivo (7 Gerard St., Huntington 631-385-8486 www.porto-vivo.com) presents gourmet summer specials on Sundays and Mondays from 5-11 p.m. Diners will have the choice of a 2-pound Maine lobster or the certified angus beef rib-eye steak for $25. Pair with sides such as: zucchini sautéed in garlic oil, sautéed mushrooms, truffle mashed potatoes, ricotta gnocchi gratin, crispy potato roesti, sautéed spinach, grilled asparagus, or Porto Vivo fries with Parmesan cheese, truffle oil and fine herbs ($7 each)

HONU DOES LOBSTER: HONU Kitchen & Cocktails (363 New York Ave., Huntington 631-421-6900 www.honukitchen.com) is going lobster crazy with new lobster menu items for the summer. Twin lobster tails ($34) include a pair of 6-ounce, butter-poached tails with mashed potatoes; or add some turf with the Surf & Turf ($42) combination, a 10-ounce filet mignon and 6-ounce butter-poached lobster tail with mashed potatoes.

LOBSTER BAKE: Northport Fish and Lobster Co. puts its best critters forward for a fundraiser at Lewis Oliver Farm (7 Burt Ave., Northport. 631-261-6320) on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2-7 p.m. In addition to all the lobster bake specialties, there will be hay rides, face painting, a pie-eating contest and pony rides, plus music by Steve Edwards and the Barnstompers. Admission to the Barnyard Bash and Lobster Bake is free; cost for food varies. The event benefits Friends of the Farm and 100 percent of money raised will go toward feeding and caring for the animals and preserving the farm.

SPECIAL SLOE’S: The best barbeque spare ribs special in town these days is at Smoking Sloe’s (847 Fort Salonga Road, Northport 631-651-8812 www.smokingsloes.com). Monday through Friday, $15.99 per person gets you all-you-can-eat spare ribs with cole slaw, corn bread and choice of two sides. Awesome! Smoking Sloe’s owner Roger Montague’s dry-rub ribs are smoked with love (very slowly, that is) until all that goodness just falls off the bone. It’s as close to Southern barbeque as you’ll find this side of a North Carolina roadside.
