SCENT OF RICE: Dao, the recently opened modern
Asian restaurant at 92 East Main Street, Huntington,
hosted a holiday celebration for 100 senior citizens from
the Huntington Senior Center. The seniors were treated
to a delicious gourmet lunch free-of-charge. In
addition to the culinary experience, Dao hired master Chinese
acrobat Yang Xiao De, who entertained the seniors. Huntington
Supervisor Frank Petrone and Assemblyman Andrew Raia also
attended. Dao's owner, Peter Ma, said he wants to return some
good will to the same community that is making his newly opened Huntington restaurant
a success. In Chinese, Dao literally means
a scent of rice. This is a sentimental memory
for Ma, reminding him of the scent of harvest time during
his childhood in China. The harvest is a time of replenishment,
and by providing a free lunch to a group of Huntington's
senior citizens, he said he hopes to help fulfill Dao's purpose
by bringing some joy to Huntington's seniors.
