DINE HUNTINGTON: Dine Huntington Restaurant Week,
presented by Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce and Long
Islander Newspapers, is off and running. Plan to dine often
Oct. 12-23. In fact, start planning now because there are
39 participating restaurants to date and more to come.
Check us out at www.dinehuntington.com, and follow DineHuntington
on Facebook for up-to-the-minute updates.
WHATS BAKING: New from the bakers oven
at Café Portofino (249 Main Street, Northport Village
631-262-7656) a duo of all natural whole wheat scones that
make a delicious (dare we say healthy?) accompaniment to your
morning joe. Whole wheat summer berry scones are bursting
with fresh seasonal fruit; the whole wheat apricot almond
scones are loaded with apricots and almonds. Made with all
natural ingredients, each jumbo scone is $2.50.
SERENA SIGHTING: After throwing out the first pitch
at the new Yankee Stadium Friday in the Yankees vs. White
Sox game, tennis great Serena Williams headed to Huntingtons
newest hotspot, Porto Vivo (7 Gerard St., Huntington, 631-385-8486
www.portovivorestaurant.com) for dinner with Home Shopping
Network maven Joy Mangano, recently named one of Fast Companys Most
Creative People of 2009. Williams, her manager and her
sister Isha joined Porto Vivo owners Joy Mangano and Philipp
Seipelt and Seipelts fiancée Christie Mangano
in the upper level dining room. Williams enjoyed steamed littleneck
clams and grilled branzino, but skipped vintages from the
wine cellar, instead opting for water to gear up for play
at the upcoming U.S. Open next week.
