Now Serving: Foodies didn’t wait for the ribbon cutting to find their way to La Bottega. On July 11, when Huntington Supervisor Frank Petrone arrived to cut the ribbon to mark the grand opening of the new restaurant at 9 Wall Street in Huntington village, he found that foodies had already followed their noses to the new eatery, which opened a few weeks earlier in June. The Huntington branch of the popular Nassau trattoria chain features 68 varieties of panini, plus salads and Italian specialties, and has tables for inside and courtyard dining. At the ribbon cutting, from left, are: Supervisor Frank Petrone and owners Raymond Polito, Rose Polito, Phillis Quirke, Joe Quirke and Sylvanna Polito.

BY ANY OTHER NAME: Just when you’d gotten used to finding a Starbucks on every street corner, the Seattle Times reports this week that the Washington-based coffee giant will change the name of some of its Seattle stores. An underperforming Starbucks on East 15th Street in Seattle will be known as 15th Avenue Coffee and Tea as of next week, the newspaper reports. In addition to a rustic, cobbled-together coffeehouse look, the shop will serve wine and beer, host poetry readings and musical performances, and baristas will forgo the automated route and pull the espresso shots by hand. If it catches on, we just may see more Starbucks shops adopt the personalities of their neighborhoods. Welcome to Jericho Turnpike Java…

COFFEE AS THEATER: Talk about neighborhood coffee houses with personality… Georgio’s Coffee Roasters (West Jericho Turnpike, Huntington, 631-470-7797. www.georgioscoffee.com) has bought a handful of vacuum style coffee makers. If you’re old enough to remember the Cory pot, you’ll also remember the funky method of making coffee produced about the finest cup of brew you can get your hands on. The fact that it’s accompanied by theatrical whooshing, bubbling and a gurgling action makes it that much better. Vaccuum brew comes to Georgio’s Coffee Roasters on July 25, though if you asked Georgio nicely on the 24th, we bet he’d accommodate. Expect to pay a little more, and expect to applaud the end as well.
